Oleshki town is one of the track and field center of the Kherson region, which was flooded.

On the 6th of June, the Kakhovka Dam was undermined by the russian army. It caused enormous flood in the Kherson region. Oleshki town and other communities were flooded with water level depth to the roofs of buildings.

We want to tell the story of Ksenia Pirozhenko, a Ukrainian middle-distance runner, multiple champion of Ukraine, and participant of international competitions. She was born in Oleshki town on the left bank of the Dnipro River in Kherson region, which is now occupied by the russian army. Her mother is a physical education teacher in the local school, where Ksenia started training. Now she lives and trains in Kyiv.

Ksenia told us about the real situation in the town.

“It was scary. I was praying for my parents to survive. The problem is that Oleshki is occupied and under the control of Russian soldiers. I tried to apply for help on the russian side, but they ignored me. Moreover, they blocked attempts of local volunteers to rescue people from roofs on boats by shelling.

That morning I called more than 50 phone numbers to find someone, who can pick up my parents from the roof of their building. Finally, they were saved. But after my mother told me terrifying things. Many people and animals did not survive. Corpses float on the streets. Infrastructure is destroyed.”

Ksenia personally organized donation to provide affected people with food and warm clothes. You can help by this link.

We kindly ask you to pay attention of the international sport community to this situation. It lasts now.

Many people right now are dying underwater. Ukraine needs international support and help to stop Russian aggression and the suffering of people.
